I love crunchy people! You know the ones, they have such an appreciation for the world around them and are often willing to sacrifice indulgences. When I think of a crunchy person, I see kids collecting eggs from their chicken coop, an amazing organic garden watered from their very own rainwater capture system, homemade non-toxic cleaning products. In my mind’s eye, it looks amazing and simple. Something completely doable.
I so want to be crunchy.
Don’t get me wrong, I make efforts. Our home is nourished in large part by non-GMO and organic foods, natural cleaning products (that are purchased, not made…heavy sigh) keep kooties at bay, and choose paper over plastic, etc.
But ...
Heavy sigh, there is a but.
Sometimes it’s just too much work. I’m not proud of that statement, but it’s the truth.
Consider this scenario, we arrive home from work/school at 3pm. I have 2 hours before I need to start dinner. My to do list is a mile long, kiddos have homework to do, are starving, and exhausted from the day, and I haven’t eaten lunch yet. Oh yeah, and I need to fit in a workout. This is my typical weekday. 8 million things to do in 120 minutes. Sounds like yours right? So the thought of sending the kiddos out to collect a bounty from the fabulously prolific, non-existent garden to use for our dinner at 3:15pm on a Tuesday seems completely out of reach. I can, however convince each child to peel the store bought organic carrots and refill the purified water pitcher. A semi-crunchy life I can work towards. It takes off some of the pressure. I may not be able to do it all, but I can do something.
